| Description: | The second largest Ocean on Earth, the Atlantic Ocean has an average depth of 12,000 feet. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge divides the floor of the Atlantic into eastern and western sections; follows the trend of the coastlines of bordering continents composed of a series of deep-sea basins (abyssal plains). The greatest depth at 28,000 ft (8,530 m) is the Milwaukee Deep in the Puerto Rico Trench, north of Puerto Rico, at approx 193000N and 0683000W. The Atlantic Ocean contains 23.9 percent of the Earth's water. Lowest elevation in DE, FL, GA, ME, MD, MA, NH, NJ, NY, NC, RI, SC, VA, VI, and PR. |
